About Rick Genge

About Rick Genge

Rick brings over 50 years of teaching experience with students of all ages and musical styles. He studied classical guitar, music theory, and ear training at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and has toured in bands for more than 30 years.

A Life in Music

Rick’s musical journey began early, from accordion at age eight to guitar at twelve, with trumpet and flute added along the way. His background blends formal conservatory training with years of professional performing, arranging and recording.

Teaching Philosophy

Rick believes students learn best in a supportive, encouraging environment. Each lesson is personalized to the student’s skill level, musical interests, and individual goals, helping them build confidence and develop their own musical voice.

What Rick Teaches

  • Acoustic, electric, and classical guitar
  • Bass guitar
  • Songwriting and composition

Studio & Creative Work

Alongside his teaching, Rick is an experienced songwriter, performer, producer, and engineer with over 40 years of recording experience. He has co-written, performed on, and produced albums and singles for a wide range of artists, as well as released instrumental guitar albums of his own. His studio work focuses on creating clear, cohesive, and broadcast-ready recordings—shaping arrangements, tone, and production to support each song’s story and potential for film, television, and media use.
