Vocal Coaching with Lori Paul

Recording artist Lori Paul helps singers:

  • Build confidence and a reliable singing voice.
  • Prepare for live performances and studio sessions.
  • Refine performance skills and develop personal style.
  • Increase volume dynamics and vocal range.

Songwriting evaluation and mentoring are also available.

Rates

  • $65 for a 45-minute weekly lesson (audition required).
  • $120/hour pay-as-you-attend.
  • A one-hour evaluation ($120 fee) is required of students applying for a weekly coaching spot and is recommended for any performer seeking vocal health/technique assessment.

Vocal Coaching and Recording Programs

Level One –  An Introduction To Singing

  • For beginners of all ages (recommended 10 yrs and up)
  • An evaluation audition is required to book a weekly session.

This program is for vocal students who are:

  • New to singing or inexperienced performers 
  • Willing to sing along with recommended singers daily
  • Able to learn new songs regularly  and prepare lyrics for songs as instructed

Level One teaches how to:

  • Sing with a microphone
  • Care for your vocal cords
  • Warm up your voice before singing
  • Compile a book or digital folder of lyrics
  • Identify the various parts of a song 
  • Memorize the lyrics and order of the parts 
  • Count beats and bars of music
  • Sing in pitch and with proper breath support 
  • Correct ‘drifting’ out of pitch 
  • Figure out which key is ideal for any given song 
  • Sing long-held notes with dynamic volume 
  • Understand the song lyric’s meaning 
  • Create lists of long and short term goals
  • Build confidence as a performer

Level Two- Vocal Performance

  • For vocal students who have completed Level One or successfully auditioned.

Level Two requires that students:

  • Sing to instrumental tracks, with other musicians, or accompany themselves on piano or guitar
  • Sing daily and expand song selection
  • Understand basic music terminology
  • Are able to sing with emotional connection to the lyric
  • Learn a new song each week

Level Two teaches how to:

  • Use proper microphone technique for recording 
  • Identify 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures 
  • Develop consistent quality of vocal tone 
  • Find a balance between energy and relaxation 
  • Vary vocal volume for dynamic performance 
  • Experiment with melody and phrasing 
  • Sing with a tonal ‘mix’ of vocal registers
    Sing with vibrato
  • Improvise melodies for trouble shooting and for fun 
  • Prepare for auditions and performances 
  • Set and achieve short term musical goals

Level Three- Advanced Performance

  • For students who have completed Level Two or successfully auditioned.

Level Three requires students to:

  • Explore playing an instrument to accompany themselves
  • Understand keys and chord progressions
  • Improvise on a given melody
  • Complete creative writing assignments

Level Three teaches how to:

  • Perform solo and/or with other musicians. 
  • Write lyrics and melodies 
  • Find performance opportunities 
  • Maintain vocal cord health

Songwriting Mentorship

  • Provides original songwriting guidance for singers who play piano or guitar.

The Songwriting program includes:

  • Poetry & lyric writing  
  • Study of the musical masters in relevant genres 
  • Song dissection and analysis
  • Recording original songs
